Formative assessments allow teachers to better collect a "photo album" of a child's learning rather than a "snapshot," as Tomlinson and McTighe suggest, to better show the learning process and to better guide students during this learning process. Once teachers and students together can determine where students are in the learning process, instruction can be tailored for better understanding or enriching.
